Chapter 15

Harboring Hate and Revenge

“Something of vengeance I had taste for the first time; as romantic wine it seemed, on swallowing, warm and racy: Its after-flavor, metallic and corroding, gave me a sensation as if I had been poisoned.”
-- Charlotte Bronte

Harboring hate and revenge might seem appropriate and comforting, but they serve no real beneficial purpose. In fact, hate and revenge achieve the opposite results. As long as you have a cauldron of hate and revenge boiling inside you, it is only you, the hater, who suffers. The person for whom you feel this hate is going about his or her daily life, totally unaware of the discomfort that is eating at you from the inside out. It is much more constructive to channel the energy spent on hating into something positive both you and for others around you.
