Quick and Easy Relaxation Techniques
“Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are.”
The following four techniques promote a state of calm and relaxation.
18-Second Relaxation Technique
- Sit comfortably
- Close your eyes
- Inhale through your nose for a count of 5
- Hold your breath for a count of 6
- Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of 7
- While exhaling, you might want to say or think a word that brings tranquility to you. Such a word might be “peace” or “calm”.
This technique is useful when you are feeling anxious or fearful. It is so much easier to deal with whatever arises when you are in a calm or relaxed state. If you use this technique in a public place, it is quite okay to keep your eyes open.
This effective exercise takes only 18 seconds. Practice it 3 times a day and whenever you have a sudden need to attain calm.
